One of the essential events of the Catalan literary world, Saint George’s Day, is approaching. This April 23rd of 2021 will be very special for book lovers, because the health circumstances, unlike last year, will allow there to be activity again in squares and streets throughout Catalonia.
The Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya has presented, in this sense, a specific plan to disseminate the recommended measures and protocols so that Saint George’s Day can be celebrated with all the guarantees in all municipalities. The land is ready, therefore, so that one of the most beautiful festivals in the world and most beloved by the Catalans can succeed again as it deserves.
In this context, authors, publishers and booksellers have rushed to present, as usual, their editorial novelties, to get everything ready for the most important day of the year for the book sector. This will be an extraordinary Sant Jordi, in which the activity in many bookstores will be distributed throughout the week, to avoid crowds.
However, on April 23rd the traditional signatures of books by the authors will be maintained, as well as the sale of books on the street. The sector’s expectations, as a result, are positive, following last year’s suspension.
Missé, one of the editorial novelties of this Sant Jordi 2021
Mercè Armengol is one of the authors that this Sant Jordi brings to the public light a new book. His case is particular, because it is not only the presentation of a new work of children’s literature, designed to delight children and adults, but also a new literary character that will surely not leave its readers indifferent.
The book of Armengol, who apart from writing the texts has also been in charge of the corresponding illustrations, is entitled Missé, which is, at the same time, the name of this endearing literary character. In this 36-page tale, missé, a girl full of tenderness, is first introduced, who appears accompanied by her inseparable bunny, Dory.
The adventures of Missé transport the reader to the exciting and revealing world of childhood, and show ethical values that are very suggestive of everyday life. With his acts and his teachings, Missé’s experience wants to influence the training and education in values of the little ones of the house.
The work is an od to the senses, since children can not only enjoy reading their history and observing their illustrations, but also through touch. It should be borne in mind that, soon, Missé will also become a doll, which interested parties will be able to purchase through the website missebymercearmengol. com.
The author of Missé, Mercè Armengol: a multifaceted author, of an entrepreneurial nature
Mercè Armengol was born in Manresa, neighbor of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, with a self-taught and driven trajectory. His restless, creative and entrepreneurial character has led him to create different projects related to illustration, graphic design, painting and creative writing.
In the field of children’s literature, Armengol has participated in the publication of other titles, such as Natasha. Historia de una adopción (Aurifany Editorial, 2015), El Fillol de Sant Jordi i el Drac Vermell (La Vocal de Lis, 2016), with texts by Octavi Franch, or Sant Joan i el solstici d’estiu. In the case of Missé, it should be borne in mind that the work will be present in three languages: Catalan, Spanish language and English language.

Next Friday, April 23, on the occasion of the celebration of Sant Jordi, Mercè Armengol will be present at Illa Diagonal (Plaza Valdivia), in the city of Barcelona, at noon, at the stop organized by La Vocal de Lis.
